During the 2006 WV Legislative Session, SB 783 was passed that included recognition for nationally certified speech-language pathologists, audiologists and school counselors working in the public schools of West Virginia.
	SB 783 became effective July 1, 2006 with salary supplements to be awarded to 100 applicants per year.  A list of the  first 100 applicants to be awarded was announced by the WV State Dept. of Ed in November of 2006.   Salary supplements for those first 100 applicants began shortly after the announcement was made.
	New applications for the National Teacher's Certification supplement for the 2007-2008 school year must be completed and mailed to the State Dept. of Education by Sept. 15, 2007.
	SLPs and Audiologists who were the first 100 awarded during the 2006-2007 school year do not need to re-apply.   However, those professionals must RENEW their national certification status in January of 2008.
	Senority criteria for the 100 successful applicants per year are as follows: 1) total months that board certification has been held; 2) total months of employment in a school system in speech-language pathology, audiology or school     counseling; 3) total months that West Virginia certification in speech-language pathology, audiology or school     counseling has been held.
	In addition to the salary supplement, SLPs and Audiologists working in West Virginia Schools may apply for reimbursement of fees incurred while completing ASHA's certification process.  This reimbursement is awarded to 100 applicants per year and is granted only once to each nationally certified professional.  Reimbursement is granted for actual expenses up to $600.  Applications for reimbursement of fees must be received by the WVDE by Sept. 15, 2007.

Procedures for Applying for National Certification Salary Supplement 2007/2008

1. Contact ASHA to obtain an official letter of "Verification of Certification".

2. Download WV Dept. of Ed Form #43 from this page, the "Legislation" page or the WVDE website.

3. Complete the form in its entirety.

4. Attach the following documents to your completed application:
   *Letter of "Verification of Certification" from ASHA
   *A $15.00 check made payable to the WVDE

5. Submit the completed application to your superintendent's office for recommendation.

6. Mail the completed application with attachments to:

   *A copy of your 2008 ASHA Membership Card.
   *A $15.00 check made payable to the WVDE

4. Submit the completed application to your superintendent's office for recommendation.

5. Mail the completed application with attachments to:

   §126-136-23.4
4. Attach the following documents to your completed application.
   *Letter of “Verification of Certification” from ASHA
   *Actual receipts for fees and expenses incurred (receipts, cancelled checks, check stubs, credit
     card statements etc.)
   *A $15.00 check made payable to the WVDE.
5. Submit the completed application to your superintendent’s office for recommendation.
