The use of Speech-Language Pathology Assistants was authorized by the WV Department of Education June 18, 2003 to address shortages of certified SLPs in WV Public Schools.  Requirements are detailed in WV Board of Education Policy 5202.  There is currently no formal monitoring process in place for the use of SLPAs.  Any concerns or questions regarding use of SLPAs should be directed to Kathy Knighton at the WV Department of Education.
